Russia cruises were long a popular choice, with many itineraries featuring extended calls in St. Petersburg that allowed travelers time to explore its palaces, museums and historic avenues. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, geopolitical tensions and international sanctions led most major cruise lines to suspend or cancel calls on Russian ports. The U.S. State Department currently issues a Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory for Russia due to the ongoing war. Today there are no U.S.-based cruises to Russia available for travelers, and Russia cruises are not currently offered under existing conditions. Instead, you may wish to consider a Baltic Sea cruise that visits destinations such as Stockholm, Tallinn, Helsinki and Riga, combining historic capitals, walkable old towns and scenic Baltic coastlines.
