Scandinavia and Baltic Russia cruises were long a popular choice, with many itineraries featuring extended calls in St. Petersburg that allowed travelers time to explore its palaces, museums and historic avenues. However, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, international sanctions and security concerns led cruise lines to suspend calls on Russian ports, and the U.S. State Department now issues a Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory for Russia. Today there are no U.S.-based cruises to Russia available, and Russia cruises are not currently offered under existing conditions. Even so, Scandinavia and Baltic Sea sailings remain a rewarding way to explore Northern Europe, with itineraries calling on Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Stockholm, Tallinn, Helsinki and Riga, combining historic capitals, walkable old towns and scenic Baltic coastlines.
